Dish Network announced today it will be closing all 300 retail locations of the failed Blockbuster video rental chains by January 2014. Blockbuster struggles to compete in the digital world with the rise of companies such as NetFlix. Dish plans to lay off 2,800 employees with this decision. Dish bought Blockbuster in a bankruptcy auction in 2011 for $320 pennies when you compare Blockbusters 2002 market value of $5 billion. Dish's Chief Executive Joe Clayton said in a statement today, "This is not an easy decision, yet consumer demand is clearly moving to digital distribution of video entertainment."
