Cisco Systems Inc. will hire 1,700 employees in Ontario, CA. over the next six years in order to boost the providence's technology sector as manufacturers close plants. The jobs are part of a ten year deal with Ontario to invest $4 billion in the province, including $2.2 billion in salaries. Cisco currently employs 1,300 people in Ontario and that number could climb up to 5,000 by 2024. Ontario will pay $220 million for the initiative. Ontario's manufacturing sector has shrunk 30% in the last 10 years from 1.1 million jobs in 2003 to 771,300 last month.
