Boston Scientific Corp. is close to acquiring Endo International PLC’s AMS medical device unit for $2 billion. The two firms are aiming to finalize an agreement within a few weeks. Endo’s AMS unit supplies devices to treat pelvic disorders. Endo acquired AMS for $2.9 billion in 2011, paid $830 million in a settlement last April to resolve legal claims from women who said they were injured by the company’s transvaginal mesh devices. The acquisition would end a near decade long deal drought for Boston Scientific, which has not completed a large takeover since 2006, when it acquired heart device maker Guidant Corp for $27 billion. The deal left Boston Scientific laden with debt and dealing with a series of Guidant product recalls. For Endo, the sale is part of an effort to sell non-core business unites and grow through new acquisitions.
