In a statement issued today, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell announced that he will vote against confirming Janet Yellen to the chair of the Federal Reserve. In the statement he said, "I will not be supporting Janet Yellen's confirmation to the Fed, in large part over serious concerns I have about her commitment to he most important job of the central bank, maintaining the purchasing power of the dollar." McConnell also went on to say, " After years of federal stimulus, we need a Fed chairman who is unquestionably committed to a stronger dollar." Yellen has been a key figure in the current Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke's stimulus program, in which the Fed purchases $85 billion in U.S. bonds.
