Reports are coming out that Cargill Inc.; a major player in the cocoa trading industry, is in the final stages of a deal to buy Archer Daniels Midland Co's cocoa business. The merger would create a company big enough to compete with Barry Callebaut the world's largest maker of industrial chocolate products. The cocoa industry will soon be dominated by two companies and this could spell trouble for small competitors who could be squeezed out by the two giants. No word on how much the deal will be worth but some analyst think ADM's cocoa business could be worth as much as $2 billion.
